March of Dimes

Hi everybody. Nate and Alex's Mommy here. I just saw this article on the front page of CNN.COM - http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/10/04/premature.infant.deaths/index.html - and it absolutely broke my heart and reminded me how blessed, lucky, fortunate... however you want to describe it.... we are that we have BOTH Nathaniel and Alexander here with us today. Nate and Alex were born at 26 weeks.... 14 weeks before their due date... nearly 3 and 1/2 months early! That's an ENTIRE trimester!!

Last year I (with your much appreciated help) personally raised over $2000 and was #5 top walker in the Baltimore 2009 March for Babies. I know that the 2010 walk is still at least 7 or 8 months away, and the March of Dimes hasn't even released websites for teams yet to start raising money for it. But I have already decided to set my goal huge this year. I am hoping to raise $4,000 this year. $1,000 for every month my boys were in the NICU fighting for their lives. I know we can do it together.

So here is what I am asking for you. Let's truly make this year a "March of Dimes". I know last year a lot of you wanted to help me reach my goal, but the "wonderful" economy didn't allow you to. This year I am asking you to do what I did last year, throw your spare change into a jar. If you put even just a dime every day aside for the next 7 months, that over $20. And that's just for a dime a day.... imagine how much it could be if you threw in a few quarters, and nickles, and pennies.... plus a dollar or two you find in your winter coat when you pull it out as it starts to get colder. Last year I counted my change (and cash) Chris and I had thrown into a jar by my front door, and it was well over $100. Some days I would be wanting Starbucks, but instead of spending $3 on a coffee, I would go home and drop a couple dollars into the jar. Every penny, nickel, dime, quarter, dollar helps.

Please pass this blog entry on to EVERY one you know, moms, dads, grandparents, brothers, sisters, in-laws, friends, co-workers, church members, classmates, neighbors, your favorite Great Aunt Martha (hi Aunt Martha!), post it on Facebook, myspace, twitter, your blog, everywhere and anywhere you can. Also - just made yet another new blog, because this one and my baking isn't enough apparently - please come follow my progress to reach my incredibly high goal at - http://teamtwadsquad.blogspot.com/ Thank you so much for your support as well as all the constant love, prayers and well wishes that get sent out to my two wonderful sons!

~Caitlin!

Grandparents, Pop-Pop, Doctors... oh my!

What a busy week we have had! Tuesday night we went to Nana and Grandad's house with Mommy and spent the night. Wednesday morning we went to Pop-Pop's again and visited him with Mommy and Grandad. This time they got smart and locked us into our strollers... though we did get to climb on Pop-Pop and his wheel chair... and we attempted to play with the tv, phone, remote controls, sink, toilet.... you know... the usual.

Nana and us reading one of our favorite books! "I Spy"

Yesterday Grandma came to visit us and while she was here Mommy took Alex to a head specialist from Johns Hopkins University to see why his head is so small. They met Daddy at the doctors office and Alex had tons of fun exploring the exam room. He was such a good boy and didn't get into too much trouble, though he did try to throw away Mommy's car keys a couple times. But it was good news all around. Nothing is wrong with his head medically, he will probably just have a smaller than average sized head due to the helmet and just being a small guy.

Alex checking out the exam room

So word on the street is that Grandma is here for the weekend and Grandpap is on his way into town as well. YAY! We will have lots of fun.... as long as it doesn't ran.... oh and who turned on the chill? Mommy has been pulling out long sleeved shirts and sweaters and our long pants. Does that mean it's almost Christmas?

We love the song the wheels on the bus.

Social Butterflies!

This past week was a busy one. We had the usual PT appointments and outings... however Friday and Saturday were busy days. Friday we went over to play with Jacob and Sofie and their Daddy, Mr. Michael. We had WAAAY to much fun. Here are some photos and a video ... Alex was camera shy however.

On Saturday we got to go to Miss Jeanette's to watch the Hokie's beat Miami!!!!!!!!!!!! Mommy had Nana and Grandad on standby just in case things got out of hand with us..... and of course they did! We got there and got some loving my Miss Jeanette's HUGE dog Moby.... he is like twice the size of Sasha.... he was super affectionate with Nate. Mommy ran around and baby proofed Miss Jeanette's living room.... but we still found things to get into.... chips, guacamole, crackers, the tv, remote controls. About 3o minutes into the game Mommy and Daddy had enough when Nate tipped over a cup of Margarita and the proceeded to smear it into the table. Off to Nana's we went. Aunt Courtney helped Mommy drop us off... and manage to get a photo in before heading back to the game. Oh well we had fun and at least the Hokies won!
Us and Aunt Courtney..... GO HOKIES!

Update

Well we aren't 100% healthy..... but we are getting better... and less snotty. So here is what we have been up to this past week.

Tuesday night we went to Nana and Grandad's house to spend the night, but we made a stop over at Aunt Katie's and Uncle Ben's house to play with Sasha for a little bit. We had way too much fun running around their basement and getting loved on by Sasha.

Here is Nate attempting to play with Sasha

Wed. we visited Pop-Pop in his new apartment, which is very nice. We had tons of fun running around and getting into everything we weren't supposed to... we wore Mommy and Nana out!

The rest of the week was quiet, Grandma and Grandpap came down for the weekend and they took us to the park and babysat us while Mommy and Daddy went to Aunt Courtney and Uncle Todd's to watch the Hokies beat Nebraska..... GO HOKIES!

Rainy Day vs Nice Day

So yesterday is rained ALL DAY...so we couldnt go outside and play... so Mommy and Daddy found creative ways to burn off our energy.

Nate chasing Mommy around Baby Jail

Today however was a beautiful day so we went to the petting farm- http://www.clarklandfarm.com/ and ran around. We didn't even bring the strollers with us! We ran everywhere... so much to see and do. We saw/touched goats, sheep, chickens, pigs, cows, ducks, turkey, horses and tons of fairy tale things... like a giant shoe some old woman used to live in with tons of kids.... but is now a big slide to go down.

Our first experience feeding animals.... goats! Alex wanted nothing to do with it! Nate loved it!!

Then we moved on to sheep... pretty much the same

Hopefully we can go back soon! Oh and GO HOKIES!!!!!!!!!!! We beat Marshall yesterday 52-10. WOHOO!!!!!

GO MOMMY!!!!!!!!!!!

Mommy just got an email from March of Dimes with a newsletter. In it she found out she was the 5th top walker out of EVERYONE who walked in the March for Babies in Baltimore. Go Mommy!!! Way to raise over $2000!!!! Next year we will make her goal $3000 and see if we can't be #3 or 4 ... maybe one day she will be able to be the top walker (the person who raised the most money) in the entire walk.

WE ARE SO PROUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Labor Day Weekend

We have been so busy recently. The weather has been beautiful so we have been running around a lot outside. Alex has been verbalizing a lot more and even has some animal sounds down like horse, duck, cow, chicken and is very good at saying "No" and "Go". Everyone is so excited about this! Nate's vocabulary has blown up and we can't even keep track of all the words he is saying... his favorite is "No".

Saturday Mommy and Daddy were watching the Virginia Tech Football game.. which started after we went to bed....... but we solved that problem, Nate woke up and decided he was up for a while so he got to watch the game with Mommy and Daddy, then Alex woke up, but he went back to sleep a little easier. They did eventually pause the game and get us back in bed... unfortunately... maybe the next game they will let us start up and watch the whole game
Nate and Daddy watching the game

Sunday Aunt Maureen came to visit us and take Mommy out to lunch for her birthday which was last weekend. We had fun playing with her and taking her on a walk around our neighborhood.
Aunt Mo and her Godbaby Alex
Monday Daddy didn't have to go to work.. something about it being "labor day"... but I thought only Mommies went into labor..... so confused... anyways so we all went to the elementary school to play on the equipment.

Happy birthday to our most favoritest Mommy in the world!

Our music class was fun. Daddy did take a couple pictures, but isnt very good at controlling us AND taking pictures.... but we will post what he got later this weekend. Mainly we played with a bunch of different instruments, and picked up other Mommies' keys and tried to open doors, oh and we danced around and had fun.

More later, we are at Nana's house right now so there is WAAAAY too much fun to be had!

Big Day Tomorrow!

We have had such a busy week. Yesterday we got up waaaay to early in Mommy's book and were fairly unhappy about it so Mommy got us dressed and we went to the mall playground again. It was less crowded and we had tons of fun. No pictures though this time. Then we took a nap and when we woke up Grandma had come to play with us while Mommy went to her baking class. This morning... after a fairly sleepless night.... Grandma took us for a walk and we played outside.

We are so excited about tomorrow. Everyone knows what tomorrow is, probably the most important day in the world. We have been waiting so long for this day and have done lots of planning and prep work. We know it doesn't need to be said... but just in case you have lived under a rock.... TOMORROW IS OUR FIRST MUSIC CLASS!!!!!!! YAY!!!!! We can't wait. Daddy is taking us by himself. Mommy will be sending the camera with him to get lots of pictures and videos.

What's that? Something else is happening tomorrow? Something else very important? Oh you thought we forgot... silly people.. of course we remembered that tomorrow is Mommy's Birthday! We even got Daddy to send her 18 roses from us (and him as well). How could we forget that?

This is how much we love our Mommy!

Dog Days of Summer

So yesterday we went to visit Nana and Grandad. On our way over we stopped by Aunt Katie and Uncle Ben's house to pick up Aunt Katie and say hi to Uncle Ben and their puppy Sasha . Then we hung out at N/G's house and Miss Jeanette also came over. We slept while the ladies went out to the pool and hung out. After we woke up we drove Aunt Katie back to her house and we got to play with Sasha again. We had so much fun running around their basement and letting Sasha lick our faces. She loved us! Hopefully we can have a playdate with her again soon!

Alex getting kisses from Sasha with Aunt Katie's help

Nate getting some Sasha lovin'

Nate and Sasha

After we dropped off Aunt Katie we came back and went into the pool with Nana and Grandad. We had tons of fun splashing and kicking... but the best part of the pool is buckling and unbuckling our life vests.

After we got back last night Mommy was cleaning up baby jail and Piccadilly put herself away right where she belongs... since she is our favorite toy and all!

Eye Doctor

Yesterday we had an eye doctor appointment and its fairly good news all around. Nate's eyes look great and he doesn't need to go see Dr. W. for 3 YEARS! He will be 5 years old the next time he goes to the eye doctor... well for a check up... since he will have to tag along to Alex's eye doctor appointments. Alex's lazy eye is looking great but he is going to stay on the drops for at least 3 more months, then he goes back in to get checked again. But Dr. W. loved how his eyes looked... so YAY!!!!!!!

More later... we have some playing to do!
